What is this feature?
Estate Projector
Every Optiml plan includes a dedicated Estate page that shows a full breakdown of your estate at death. You can see your pre-tax estate, what it is made up of, and most importantly what your Inheritance Tax bill is and how much your family actually receives after everything is settled. A high pre-tax estate number means nothing if Inheritance Tax significantly depletes it, and from April 2027 unused pension funds will count toward your estate, making this more important than ever.
Pre-tax estate value is not the number that matters.
Unoptimised plans may project an impressive pre-tax estate. But Inheritance Tax at 40% above the nil-rate bands, plus unused pension funds entering the estate from April 2027, can wipe out a significant portion. Optiml shows you the number your family actually receives.
Every plan includes a dedicated IHT breakdown.
Optiml does not bury estate details in a summary. You get a full page showing your pre-tax estate composition, all Inheritance Tax itemised, and your final after-tax estate value.
If your liquid investments may not cover your Inheritance Tax bill, the Estate Projector can surface that gap, helping you identify whether life insurance written in trust should be part of your plan or whether adjusting your strategy could close the difference.
What the Estate Projector Shows You
Your estate, fully broken down
Your estate picture changes depending on the financial planning strategy you run. The Estate Projector gives you a clear view regardless of your goal, whether you are trying to maximise what you leave behind, or planning to spend it all.
Track your estate value year by year
Optiml projects your estate value across your full retirement timeline, from today through the end of your plan. You see the full trajectory, not just a single end-of-life number, so you can understand how your estate grows, peaks, and shifts as withdrawals and strategies play out.
See exactly what Inheritance Tax will cost
Your Inheritance Tax breakdown is itemised in full. The nil-rate band, residence nil-rate band taper above £2m, and the April 2027 inclusion of unused pensions are all factored in. The Estate Projector shows each line so you understand exactly where the tax is coming from and how much your family keeps.
Identify if your liquid assets can cover the tax bill
If your estate's IHT bill exceeds the liquid assets available at death, the Estate Projector surfaces that shortfall. This can help you evaluate whether life insurance written in trust should be part of your plan, or whether adjusting your withdrawal strategy could reduce the gap before it becomes a problem.
Your estate outcome reflects your strategy
Running a Maximize After-Tax Estate strategy? Your estate is the focal point of every decision in your plan and you will see it grow as high as it can. Running a Maximize Lifetime Spending strategy? Your after-tax estate may be drawn all the way down to zero. The Estate Projector shows you exactly where your plan lands, whatever your goal.
