Like most households, his mum and dad sat down with a financial adviser to build a plan. When they finally received the printed results weeks later, they didn't feel relieved. They had more questions than answers. So they began digging into the details themselves. They wanted to know if the plan was truly the most tax-efficient strategy for their specific lives, or why one path was recommended over another.

Max's father lacked the confidence to trust a plan that felt like a black box. So he did what far too many families end up doing: he opened Excel and built his own model. That spreadsheet became the source of truth that eventually gave Max's mother the confidence to retire. But it also became something much bigger.

Co-founders Max, Zac, and Alex saw this as a gap worth closing. People wanted more than a static, printed report; they wanted clarity and control over the decisions that would shape the rest of their lives.

What began as a family necessity has grown into a mission. They transformed that original spreadsheet into Optiml, an online platform built to give every household the ability to run their own retirement plans and “what-if” scenarios with confidence.

That is how Optiml was born.

After successfully launching in Canada, now we're bringing the same approach home to the UK. Optiml UK rebuilds the engine around UK pensions, ISAs, the State Pension, and HMRC tax rules, so households here can plan their retirement with the same clarity and control.
